
Located outside Sante Fe, New Mexico, this site in the Jemez Mountains was chosen for its remote location to become the research and engineering facility for the development of the atomic bomb. The Bradbury Science Museum is a hands-on center that documents and explores Los Alamos' unique history.
We were lucky to visit on a quiet day and spent most of the morning in a one-on-one session with Dr. Garry Franklin. The conversation ranged from nuclear weapons to DNA. His field is biochemistry but his interests range wide. We did an experiment tracking DNA to fictional characters. It demonstrated how effective DNA testing can be at a crime scene.
