The Alamo
It is described as "The Cradle of Texas Liberty." Visiting The Alamo was another unforgettable experience. One hundred and eighty-seven brave men gave their lives for Texas freedom, most of them were not even from Texas. Much of the old mission is gone, and the courtyard was rebuilt behind the famous church. Inside, Davy Crockett's rifle "Old Betsy" can be found along with a Bowie knife and Travis' letter addressed to Texans and all Americans anywhere in the world. It was hard to imagine such a fierce battle because of the skyscrapers encroaching on the grounds, but to us, the sounds and sights of 187 men dying were clear as a bell. |
