The "Elissa," a Scottish barkentine built in 1877, has its home in this city. Behind the ship is a dry-docked oil rig being repaired. More than 130,000 immigrants entered Texas through this port city.

This store is billed as the oldest drug store in Texas and claims to have the oldest neon Coca Cola sign in existence. The Star Drug Store has an old-fashioned soda fountain and displays antique drug store items.

 

This city, which has many large, historic buildings and 32 miles of beachfront, shares its name with a county and the island on which it is located. The Moody Mansion was built in 1892. Not far from the mansions and homes of the wealthy, stand two "shotgun houses." They were the homes of the not-so-wealthy in Victorian times.
