Houston
We spent two weeks in Magnolia, Texas, about 40 miles from Houston. We visited an ice cream factory, Washington on the Brazos, downtown, the zoo, a traveling Smithsonian exhibit, and much more. Several museums and points of interest were closed for the holidays, and maybe that was a good thing during the busy holiday period. Our Christmas and New Year's, away from home and tradition, were made special by relatives in Magnolia.
The Blue Bell Creamery provided a first-hand view of the ice cream-making process. Open since 1907 in Brenham, Texas, it was a curiosity that someone would try to sell something commonly made at home. But the taste caught on and the rest is history. This is a favorite in the South.
Washington on the Brazos is revered as the site of the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence on March 2, 1836.
The Houston Zoo provided a day's entertainment
for us.
Cheetahs are the fastest mammals
and move like speedsters. The zoo had a wide variety of animals and the day was perfect to
relax and enjoy.
