These hot springs are the largest in the area. The water temperature was an amazing 105 degrees, and it stays the same throughout the year. The flow rate is about 200,000 gallons a day! The springs' water emerges from a pocket of "fossil water" deposited 20,000 years ago. As the water rises, it is heated by igneous rocks. The location, along the banks of the Rio Grande, makes for a picturesque and healthy bath. The hot springs area was a mecca for people in the early 20th century because of the springs' healing powers.
