Boquillas, Mexico

The village of Boquillas del Carmen is small but interesting. It cost $2 for a round-trip boat ride across the Rio Grande. As you can see, once into Mexico we rented some stubborn burros for the mile journey into town. The village had about 200 people. There was one restaurant which served 3/$1.00 tacos and burritos. There was also an adjoining store featuring Mexican goods. A Catholic church was at the end of town. Boquillas is five hours from the nearest large Mexican city, so travel into the U.S. is common and has contributed to the history of the area's mutual use.
