Austin, Texas

We visited the Capitol Building and the newly built underground section. The original building was designed by architect E. E. Meyers, who also designed the state capitols of Michigan and Colorado.

Austin is one of the cities where our visit was all too short. We spent two days and could have stayed a week.

Our second Presidential Library, The Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum ...

Like the JFK Library, Mark truly enjoyed this visit. This classic American politician from humble beginnings rose to national prominence in a time of great change and unfortunately, a very unpopular war. The landmark legislation passed during the period of The Great Society was a tribute to President Johnson's character and political skill. He was always looking for the political center, but maybe one did not exist in 1968.

This city is the home of the University of Texas and has the feel of a liberal college town. It is a pretty city.
